I NEVER KNEW YOU. Featured

Can you imagine...spending the better part of your life serving the church...being a deacon for two terms...in the choir for years and so on...and then at the end of your days you come before the Lord and He says "get away from me, I never knew you". In Matthew 7:21-23 we read
"Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]".

The word "knew" in this verse is the Greek word "ginosko". It means to know experientially. Notice Jesus didn't say to get away because they didn't serve Him or they didn't know who He was. He didn't even say its because they didn't believe in Him...that He is the son of God. It wasn't because they never prayed or read scripture or sang songs about Him. I am not saying these are worthless endeavours but they are not that which can earn us those words that Jesus might say..."yes let him come in, we know each other well, we are old friends".

Interestingly In these verses He ties together doing the will of His Father to us knowing Him. Yet the individuals He is speaking to were under the impression they had been doing God's will. But 1Cor 13 makes it clear to us that all forms of service and giftings done without love are only noise...gains me nothing.

What is the fullness of God's will that would ensure that we know Him? Let's not forget the whole reason God created mankind and the uniqueness of His own likeness that He did create us in. God wanted relationship. An extension of Himself(in His image and after His likeness)to be in an intimate and loving relationship with. He imparted into our spirit all that makes that relationship possible...but He left the will of man to make his own choice.

Do we really know Him! Not about Him, but how intimate are we with Him? How much does He mean to us? Would Jesus right now; if we were standing in front of Him...say "I know you".
